In October 2003 the Tewksbury Town Meeting established two special funds, one to provide college scholarships to Tewksbury residents and the other to provide additional money for general education purposes. Donation forms are included with property tax bills that are sent out in the spring. The form
is also available using the link above. Donations to the Scholarship Fund help deserving students cover college costs, and donations to the Education Fund provide supplemental funding for local educational programs. Donations are fully tax-deductible.

Each fund is administered by separate committees made up of the Superintendent of Schools (or a representative) and at least four residents appointed by the Board of Selectmen. The committees determine the application process and criteria used to make awards.

Each year since 2005, the Scholarship Fund Committee has awarded college scholarships to deserving Tewksbury residents who have graduated from Tewksbury Memorial High School, Shawsheen Valley Technical High School, and private schools. These students have demonstrated excellence in the classroom and in the community.

In 2008, the Education Fund Committee awarded a grant to Tewksbury Memorial High School in memory of former Superintendent of Schools John W. Wynn, who was also a charter member of the fund committees. This $3,000 grant enabled the TMHS Science Department to purchase a fully-equipped integrated whiteboard unit (SmartBoard) for one of its classrooms.

Applications for 2010 scholarships must be filed with the Town Clerk (1009 Main Street) by Wednesday, April 21, 2010.  Application forms are available at the TMHS and Shawsheen Tech guidance offices, the Town Library, and the Town Clerk's office, or you can access the form using the link above. The Scholarship Committee will announce its recipients at the end of the school year during school Scholarship Night events.

Thank you for your donations.
