Engineering Responsibilities

The Engineering Department's responsibilities cover a wide range of functions. These tasks are performed both independently and in conjunction with other Town departments. These activities include, but are not limited to, the following:

Issue permits to construct, repair, extend or connect to the municipal sanitary sewer system per approved plans. The required permit will only be issued to an individual who is officially approved by the Town.

☺ Geographic Information Systems (GIS)

The Town has begun to institute a Geographic Information System. This is a collection of databases that can be displayed graphically. It is a very powerful tool and most cities and towns are moving in that direction already. We currently have data for our parcels, edge of road/pavement, sewers, driveways, fences, elevation contours, hydrology and some 2001 color aerial photos.

At this time, we are investigating a method to make this data available to all Town employees. In the future, the goal is to open some of this data to residents.

☺ Stormwater Regulations

The Engineering Department coordinates all Stormwater compliance with State and Federal regulations. This includes developing regulations, performing inspections and reviewing project proposals. For more information on the Town's Stormwater Management Plan, click here.

If you happen to see any suspicious and possible illegal dumping into our catch basins, streams and rivers, please report the activity here! We appreciate the community help in keeping our water clean.

 

☺ Custody of all paper and electronic maps, plans and surveys

You can obtain a copy of any of the maps or plans on file. There is a $5/sheet charge for all large copies. Data that is recreated on the plotter is $10/sheet.

☺ Flood Plain Information

You can obtain flood plain and flood zone information. There is a $5/sheet charge for all large copies.
