TYPICAL INSPECTION SEQUENCE
(Schedule inspections one
day in advance)
(NOTE: APPROVED PLANS
MUST BE ON SITE FOR FRAMING
INSPECTION)
1. Excavation inspection
before concrete is placed.
2. Footing inspection
3. Certified ‘As-Built’ survey
when foundation is in place (if required)
4. Foundation inspection with
waterproofing or damproofing in place.
5. Fireplace
5a. Must stop at the top of the smoke chamber until inspected. Do not go
beyond the smoke chamber until the throat is approved.
5b. Final inspection when complete, (typically at final bldg.
Inspection)
6. Rough electric,
plumbing & gas inspections signed off before rough frame inspection.
7. Rough framing inspection,
with all firestopping in place, before installing insulation.
8. Insulation inspection,
after all framing corrections are done and signed off.
9. Final electric,
plumbing & gas inspections are signed off before final building
inspection.
10. Smoke Detector, Fire Alarm,
oil burner and oil tank inspections by Fire Department.
11. Health Department (if
applicable) inspections.
12. Planning Board, DPW- Water &
Sewer, if applicable, signed off.
13. Building Department Final
Inspection for occupancy.
NOTE:
“FINAL IS FINAL”--
Owner should be able to move in right after final
inspection. Final inspection for new homes should be scheduled
as soon as possible and at least 3-5 prior to closing.
14. Occupancy Permit issued
after completion of all of the above.

EXACTLY regarding stairs, headroom & handrails,
no variations will be accepted.

Watch notching, drilling &
plumbing boxes.

Exhaust vents direct to
outside - not into soffits.
Additional inspections and information may be required, as the
Building Commissioner deems necessary.
