YOUR ENROLLMENT AS A VOTER

CHOOSING TO ENROLL IN A POLITICAL PARTY

There are two political parties in Massachusetts:

- Democratic Party (D) 617-472-0637

- Republican Party (R) 781-224-7461

If you enroll in either of these parties you may vote only in that party’s primary.

Enrollment in a political party does not affect your right to vote in the general election. In the general election all voters receive the same ballot and vote for the candidate of their choice regardless of party enrollment.

CHOOSING NO ENROLLMENT IN A POLITICAL PARTY

If you do not wish to enroll in a political party, check the box next to "No Party (unenrolled) or Political Designation" (not a political party) on the registration form.

If you do not enroll in a party, you may choose any party ballot you wish at the state primaries and still remain unenrolled.

CHOOSING TO ENROLL IN A POLITICAL DESIGNATION

In addition to the two "political parties" listed above, there are certain legal political designations on file with the Secretary of State. Currently these are:

- Conservative Party (A) Timesizing Not Downsizing (M)

- Natural Law Party (B) New Alliance Party (N)

- New World Council (C) Prohibition Party (P)

- Reform Party (E) American Independent Party (Q)

- Rainbow Coalition (F) Socialist Party (S)

- Green Party USA (G) Interdependent 3rd Party (T)

- We the People (H) America First Party (V)

- Constitution Party (K) Veterans Party America (W)

If you enroll in any political designation, you may not vote in any state or presidential primary.

CHANGING PARTY ENROLLMENT OR POLITICAL DESIGNATION

Once you make an enrollment choice you may change your enrollment status by notifying the Town Clerk’s Office in writing at least 20 days before an election.
